About Us

The Thunder Bay branch was organized in 1981 around a nucleus of History Department staff from Lakehead University. In 2006 we celebrated our silver anniversary. The University has provided a source for about half of our speakers over the years, the other half jetting in from across the Dominion to share dinner and wine with the members before presenting formal lectures at the University. This is a treasured time to pick the brains of our military, diplomatic and government speakers. We usually have half a dozen meetings a year, including a big name, fund raising banquet which is the highlight of the Thunder Bay social season. The city empties in the summer as people move to the lakes, so the lectures are confined to the cold (but it's a dry cold!) winter months.
