Biography 

Dr. Lana Wylie, received her Doctorate in Political Science from University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2003. She held a Postdoctoral fellowship at the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale University in 2003-2004. In 2005, she began tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, McMaster University.

Dr. Wylie's research focuses on Canadian and American foreign policy, Latin American and Caribbean politics with an emphasis on Cuba, and international relations. Her book, Perceptions of Cuba, slated for publication in 2010 with University of Toronto Press compares Canadian and American policies toward Cuba. She has also recently co-edited two volumes on Canadian foreign policy. They are Canadian Foreign Policy in Critical Perspective (with J. Marshall Beier) (Oxford University Press, 2010) and Our Place in the Sun: Canada and Cuba in the Castro Era (with Robert Wright) (University of Toronto Press, 2009).

Research 

Canadian Policy toward Cuba in an Era of Change
This project will make a critical contribution to foreign policy during Cuba's period of flux which is being driven both by both internal and external pressures.  In 2008, when Raúl Castro became president of Cuba, he began a process of incremental change that will be highly significant for Cuba and its relations abroad. In addition, the election of Barack Obama in the United States will likely usher in a new era of US-Cuban relations.
